چکیده

Tunable, coherent radiation in the ultraviolet region has been generated by stimulated Raman scattering, by anti-Stokes Raman lasers, and by frequency-mixing processes based on nonlinear polarizabilities of atomic and molecular systems. Present progress in the development of these laser-driven sources is reviewed, with examples of available systems and their characteristics. Applications in spectroscopy are briefly discussed.

Generation of vacuum ultraviolet radiation by sum frequency mixing of a femtosecond and a nanosecond laser

Ž . The interaction of high-intensity short pulse fs lasers with atomic or molecular vapors permits the conversion of visible light to intense coherent radiation in the vacuum ultraviolet spectral region. We demonstrate sum frequency mixing of a Ž . Ž . high-intensity short pulse fs laser with a conventional long pulse ns laser to extend the accessible wavelength range of harmonic generation. T...

Acquiring molecular interference functions of X-ray coherent scattering for breast tissues by combination of simulation and experimental methods

Background: Recently, it has been indicated that X-ray coherent scatter from biological tissues can be used to access signature of tissue. Some scientists are interested in studying this effect to get early detection of breast cancer. Since experimental methods for optimization are time consuming and expensive, some scientists suggest using simulation. Monte Carlo (MC) codes are the best...

Coherent control of frequency conversion toward short (picosecond) vacuum-ultraviolet radiation pulses

We present experimental data on the coherent control of frequency conversion toward the vacuum-ultraviolet regime in xenon atoms, applying intense ultrashort picoseconds (ps) radiation pulses. We report on quantum interference between two resonantly enhanced frequency conversion processes (i.e., fifth harmonic generation and four-wave mixing). The conversion processes are driven by a fundamenta...

Tunable Coherent Radiation in the Soft X-Ray and Extreme Ultraviolet Spectral Regions

Undulator radiation, generated by relativistic electrons traversing a periodic magnet structure, can provide a continuously tunable source of very bright and partially coherent radiation in the extreme ultraviolet (EUV), soft X-ray (SXR), and X-ray regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Typically, 1–10 W are radiated within a 1=N relative spectral bandwidth, where N is of order 100. Monochrom...

Tunable deep-ultraviolet source generated by scattering off adiabatically prepared Raman coherence in hydrogen gas.

We demonstrate a tunable deep-ultraviolet coherent source generated by the beating of a tunable UV laser and strongly driven vibrational Raman coherence in hydrogen. The total energy conversion efficiency reaches a maximum of 50% at the phase side of the Raman coherence. The generated spectrum of Raman sidebands tunes with the input and extends from 435 to 146 nm for an input at 282 nm.
